Learning to dress from movies and TV shows: Choosing the right pieces ensures you won’t waste your outfits (Part 2)

With the evolution of the times, audiences' pursuit of film and television dramas goes beyond rich content and outstanding acting; they also pay more attention to the characters' dressing styles. The outfits in television dramas are not just about clothing combinations but also reflect the inner world of the characters. Thus, learning to dress from shows has become an important topic for viewers. This has emerged as a new way of learning and a cultural phenomenon. In addition to the popular Taiwanese drama 'The Candidate - The Wave Maker' mentioned in the previous article, there is also a Korean drama 'The Fabulous' that, like 'The Candidate,' features characters in formal attire quite often. This has also become a popular topic of discussion among many young people today.

Dǎo Xì Hwang (played by Kim Hee-ae)

The head of the strategic planning office at South Korea's largest conglomerate, the Yoonseong Group, she is a strategic genius skilled at manipulating public opinion to shape images. Her high prestige comes from repeatedly resolving various issues that trouble the Yoon family.

In the drama, Kim Hee-ae's character is characterized by her sharp and competent nature, so she mostly wears suits or tailored outfits. The suits primarily feature a sharp lapel design, which not only gives a polished impression but also highlights the character's persona. Additionally, she pairs her outfits with different silk scarves, adding diversity to her wardrobe.

Wú Jǐngshú (played by Moon So-ri)

An independent candidate for the mayor of Seoul and a labor rights lawyer, she has previously served as a Seoul city councilor and later fought alongside Dǎo Xì Hwang.

Like Dǎo Xì Hwang, she is also a character that requires a strong presence. Her outfits often feature shirts with a standard collar, and compared to suits, she appears more frequently in overcoats.

Baek Jae-min (played by Ryu Soo-young)

The candidate for mayor of Seoul nominated by the Korean Republican Party, a former national broadcaster, and the second son-in-law of the Yoonseong Group. He has maintained a prominent position as a leading media figure in South Korea for several years, diligently fulfilling his responsibilities and obligations, and later running for mayor of Seoul in opposition to Director Hwang and Oh Kyung-sook.

In the drama, Ryu Soo-young's character is often seen in shirts paired with suits. He typically wears a broad-collared shirt, which looks great with various ties. His face shape is long and slim, and the broad collar helps to complement his facial features.

In the past, I also used to think that the outfits in political dramas were limited to suits and shirts, which seemed dull and uninteresting. However, after delving deeper into the clothing combinations of the characters in the shows, I realized there are so many hidden details. If you have the chance, you can also try the outfits from the dramas and choose combinations that suit you, instantly transforming into the main character.
